A More Open Approach to Pain

To debate the topic of medicinal cannabis, bringing together experts in the fields of primary care, palliative care and patient charities.

The challenge

Medicinal cannabis is a contentious topic in the UK and attending a round table to discuss proved a challenge. However, healthcare professionals cannot deny that conventional approaches to chronic pain management are failing patients. How could we leverage this to bring people together?

Idea

To host a round table called “A More Open Approach to Pain” with medicinal cannabis forming just one part of the agenda. Hosted by GP Dr Marion Sloan at the Wellcome Collection in London we managed to attract a prestigious panel including former head of the British Medical Association, Professor Pali Hungin, editor of the British Journal of General Practice, Professor Roger Jones and the MS Society.

A four-page article based on the report was also printed in a special edition of The Digest.
